History: |
Claflin University, founded in 1869 as Claflin University, is the oldest historically Black college or university in South Carolina. It was also the first college in the state to welcome all students regardless of race or gender.

The University offers broad based education in liberal arts and sciences combined with internships and other career-focused programs. The University currently offers a Master of Business Administration degree (MBA), a Master of Science in Biotechnology, Master of Education and 33 undergraduate majors

Cost: |
2006-2007 tuition and fees, $12,358; room and board, $6,640-$8,380. These amounts are set annually by the Board of Trustees.

Financial Aid: |
96% of full-time students attending Claflin receive some form of financial aid. Need-based scholarships, grants, loans and work-study programs are available for eligible students.

R.O.T.C: |
Claflin graduates who complete the R.O.T.C. program (a cross enrollment agreement with South Carolina State University) may be commissioned as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army.

Intercollegiate Sports: |
Claflin is a member of SIAC Conference of the NCAA (Division II level). Programs for men: basketball, baseball, tennis, and track and field. Programs for women: basketball, softball, volleyball, tennis, Cross Country and track and field.

Location: |
Claflin University’s historic 43-acre campus is located in Orangeburg, South Carolina, a city of 15,000 people about forty miles south of Columbia, the state capital and about 75 miles north of the historic city of Charleston.
