The Department of English and Foreign Languages is committed to teaching students how to read analytically, think critically, write effectively, and speak persuasively. Students in the department develop an aesthetic appreciation for literature and learn valuable research techniques.
The Department of English and Foreign Languages offers three major programs leading to the following degrees:
Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree with a major in English. A degree in English is excellent preparation for law school or graduate school, and for any profession that requires close attention to language.
BA degree with a major in English Education. This program is designed for students who want to teach English (and related subjects) at the secondary school level.
BA degree with a major in American Studies. Students in this interdisciplinary program study the key ideas of major literary, philosophical, social, and artistic movements within the American experience.
