The academic programs offered by the Department of History & Sociology teach students how to analyze, interpret, and evaluate social phenomena. Students in the department are exposed to a wide range of intellectual perspectives and acquire a better understanding of the world in which they live.

Undergraduate Programs:

African and African American Studies (AAAS): Bachelor of Arts, Minor, and Certification. The historical, social, philosophical and religious perspectives and contributions of African and African Americans is the major focus of this interdisciplinary program of study.

History: BA degree with a major in History. In addition to mastering the basics of American and world history, students in this program learn how to analyze and interpret historical data and how to think critically and analytically.

Sociology: BA degree with a major in Sociology. Sociology is the study of human society and social relations. Students majoring in Sociology learn how to analyze and interpret sociological evidence and how to express themselves clearly as well as persuasively.

The department also offers minors in History, Political Science, Sociology, Criminal Justice, and Gerontology.
