Theta Alpha Kappa National Honor Society

   
 


In 1999, the Department of Philosophy and Religion was pleased to be accepted into Theta Alpha Kappa, the National Honor Society for Religious Studies. Honoring excellence in Religious Studies is its primary purpose and it currently hosts over 200 local chapters throughout the United States at institutions both large and small, public and private.

Claflin University inducted its first members into TAK in 2000. Dr. Montgomery is the chapter’s advisor.

Theta Alpha Kappa National Honor Society, Alpha Epsilon Alpha Chapter

In March 2000, the Department of Philosophy and Religion received its charter for the National Religious Studies Honor society. Founded in 1976 at Manhattan College in Riverdale (the Bronx ) New York , Theta Alpha Kappa is the only national honor society serving the needs of those involved in the study of religion and/or theology at both the baccalaureate and post-baccalaureate levels of higher education. Honoring excellence in these academic fields is its primary purpose, and it currently hosts over 140 local chapters throughout the United States at institutions both large and small, public and private.

Theta Alpha Kappa is a related scholarly organization of the American Academy of Religion, an affiliate society of the Council of Societies for the Study of Religion, and a member of the Association of College Honor Societies

Membership is open to all students in the department with an overall minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.3 and a minimum 3.5GPA in Philosophy and Religion classes
