Transfer Students
A student who previously attended another college may enter Claflin as a transfer student; depending on the nature of the academic record, some or all of the credits earned may be transferred to Claflin. Students who have satisfactorily completed courses at an accredited institution may be admitted to regular standing with such advanced credits as their previous records may warrant.
To be eligible for transfer, a candidate must meet the following re-quirements:
- Academic credits of all applicants must satisfy entrance requirements as documented through submission of an official transcript from each college or university attended.
- The applicant must submit Confidential Statement (s) of honorable dismissal from previously attended colleges.
- If less than 30 semester hours have been earned, applicants must submit, in addition to college or university transcripts, an official high school transcript, SAT or ACT score, high school grade point average and rank in graduating class.
- Applicants should be prepared to submit course descriptions from the official catalog of the institution(s) from which credits are to be transferred. Students transferring from non-accredited institutions are temporarily categorized as unclassified students.
- The applicant’s cumulative grade point average from the transferring institution must meet or exceed the minimum GPA for new students at Claflin. No credits will be accepted for transfer if the GPA does not meet this requirement.
- No transfer grades below “C” will be accepted.
- No transfer credit in the major over ten years old will be accepted until and unless it is validated by the major department.
- No more than 60 credit hours may be transferred from two year institutions (courses number 100-200).
Upon their arrival at Claflin, all transfer students should have in their possession an official evaluation of their transcripts by the Office of Admissions and Records listing courses accepted for credit by Claflin.
Transfer credits from unaccredited educational institutions will generally be unacceptable to Claflin. In exceptional cases, where a student demonstrates to the satisfaction of Claflin officials a mastery of subject matter equivalent to that taught on the general education level at Claflin, acceptance of such transfer credit on an individual basis may be authorized, provided, however, that such courses are equivalent in terms of courses and hour values to general education courses taught at Claflin In all such cases, Claflin reserves the right to require the applicant to demonstrate the required proficiency by scoring at acceptable levels on departmental examinations in related subject areas, by undergoing a probationary period of residence at Claflin or by fulfilling both of these requirements.
