The goal of the SOAR Center is to help students maximize their sense of well-being as well as their academic, personal and social growth and career concerns.
The SOAR Center is comprised of TRIO Programs, GEAR UP and the Claflin Counseling Center. The staff of the SOAR Center is competent and caring as they work to meet the needs of students. The Center serves a variety of student populations, from middle-school to college students. The federally funded TRIO programs include Student Support Services and the outreach programs—Upward Bound, Upward Bound/Math Science and Educational Talent Search.
GEAR UP, also federally funded, and Talent Search work to prepare middle-school through high school youngsters for college. High school students are served by the two Upward Bound Programs and Claflin’s students are assisted in many ways by Student Support Services program. The Claflin Counseling Center is also under the umbrella of the SOAR Center and offers academic, personal and career counseling. Support for students with disabilities also falls within the realm of services provided by the Center.
