After serving Claflin University in an interim capacity for the 2005-2006 academic year, Dr. George Miller was appointed to the position of Vice President for Academic Affairs in May of 2006. In this position, he is responsible for the guidance and oversight of all academic and research programs as well as the management of changes in policies and procedures that affect the overall academic life of the University. In addition to this assignment he serves as the Executive Assistant for Government Relations and Presidential Professor of Chemistry. A distinguished chemist and astrophysicist, Dr. Miller has a lengthy record of research, scholarship, and administration in both higher education and the private sector. As a member of the Stratosphere Physics and Chemistry Branch at the NASA Goodard Flight Center, he worked extensive on the development and operation of an experimental laboratory used to obtain specialized data for the stratospheric program primarily dealing with Ozone depletion. He has also authored or co-authored numerous publications on his research in the areas of Laboratory Photochemistry, Laser Spectroscopy, Chemical Kinetics, Molecular Dynamics, and Electro-Optical Materials. Dr. Miller earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Delaware State University, a Master of Science in Physical Chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Physical Chemistry from Howard University.
