Claflin University, founded in 1869 as Claflin University,
is the oldest historically Black college or university in South
Carolina. It was also the first college in the state to welcome

is a member of SIAC Conference of the NCAA (Division II level).
Programs for men: basketball, baseball, tennis, cross country and track and
field. Programs for women: basketball, softball, volleyball,
tennis, and track and field.

Claflin University’s historic 43-acre campus is located
in Orangeburg, South Carolina, a city of 15,000 people about
forty miles south of Columbia, the state's capital and about 75 miles north of the historic city of Charleston.
