Student Support Services
Student Support Services (SSS) is a project funded by the U.S. Department of Education under Title IV Higher Education Act of 1965. SSS has been in existence on Claflin University campus since 1973.
SSS is designed to provide quality support services to increase the retention and graduation rate of eligible students. SSS works cooperatively with faculty, academic departments and other university programs to increase university-wide services.

Why Enroll in SSS?
SSS students have high retention rate, meaning that they are more likely to complete their academic programs. The extra support students receive through SSS helps them become more successful in achieving their academic goal.
How Do I Apply?
Complete an on-line application(PDF) or stop by the office in the Campus Center. Once accepted, you will work with your SSS counselor to develop an Individual Education Plan to ensure that your academic and personal concerns are addressed.
Am I eligible?
To receive assistance you must be a U. S. Citizen/registered permanent resident and accepted for enrollment/currently enrolled at Claflin University and meet one of the following:
Services Provided
Counseling
Each program student is assigned a counselor who provides academic and personal counseling. Counselors identify issues that interfere with academic performance, collaborate with faculty and make referrals. They remain the students' primary contact. An individual education plan is developed for each student. Counselors also provide workshops to develop critical thinking and other academic skills.
Tutorial Assistance
One-on-one and small group sessions are provided to students in math, reading, writing and other subjects. Technology tutorials are also available.
Financial Aid Assistance
SSS provides assistance with the completion of forms for financial aid, forms necessary for continued college attendance, graduate and professional schools.
Peer-Counseling
The peer-counseling component provides new students with the transition and adjustment to the University.
Orientation
Orientation programs to introduce student’s to SSS staff and the Claflin University Community.
