What to do when: A floppy disk will not open any of your files or some files.

  1. Insert the floppy disk
  2. Open My Computer
  3. Right click on 3 ½ floppy and select Properties
  4. When the properties box appears, click on the Tools tab (see below)



  5. Under the Error checking option, click the Check Now button
  6. When the check disk box appears, place a check mark next to Automatically fix file system errors option and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors option, by clicking in the check box. (show below)


  7. Click the Start button
  8. The scan will begin. You will notice the words Phase 1 and Phase 2 appear as the disk is scanned
  9. A box will appear saying the disk check is complete. Click Ok. (shown below)


  10. Click Ok to close the 3 ½ floppy properties dialog box.
  11. Now try opening the files on your floppy disk.
  12. If this fails to recover your files, stop by the IT office for more assistance.
