Assignment #1: Course Background Study

    Once given your TA course assignment, determine the following information:

  1. What are the pre-requisites for the class?
  2. To what grade level is this class being offered?
  3. What majors are likely taking this class?
  4. Is it a “Gen Ed” course (general education)? Why are students taking it? Is it required for university or major?
  5. What are the students like? Ie. Racial makeup, sex, rural vs urban, local/state/region
  6. What courses are many students likely taking concurrently with this course?
  7. Obtain a course syllabus for this year
  8. Obtain a past exam for the course, or past labs.
  9. Meet with the Professor of Record for the course and discuss what expectations they have for you. Ask them what you responsibilities are. Can you give a lecture? Will you be doing grading? How much time is required prior to class for set-up?
  10. Attend the lecture that accompanies the lab (if any) and get syllabus.
