Mission
To provide affordable, accessible, and high quality health care to those eligible for services. To provide a comprehensive disease-prevention and health promotion program to the Claflin University community. The emphasis of the University health program is on preventive medicine. Students are urged to visit the University’s health care center before any serious symptoms of illness develop. This is for the students’ safety as well as his/her fellow students. All questions concerning students’ mental, emotional, or physical matters are for our consideration.
Vision
Student Health Services will support personal and academic success of the Claflin University students and help improve the quality of life for the campus community. Health services are available to all students enrolled at Claflin University whether they are full-time, part-time, or off-campus students. Students pay a health care fee which is included in tuition that covers the cost of an accident and sickness health insurance policy. However, the insurance at the University is secondary to the students’ own personal insurance, which is their primary source. Should a student become ill or have an accident, they are to file a claim with their own insurance company first. Then, for whatever amount is not paid, the University’s claim can be filed for the balance up to the limit of our insurance.
Emergency
A student’s condition may require that he/she is referred to a specialist, cardiologist, orthopedist or a surgeon. He/she will be taken to the Regional Medical Center’s Emergency Room. Make sure that the student carries his/her personal insurance card on each visit.
Excuses
All excuses are given to students who receive treatments and referrals, and their condition warrants their missing classes. Students are urged to call prior to missing their classes and must be seen within 24 hours at the infirmary.
