Hometown: Chaguanas, Trinidad and Tobago
Major: Biotechnology
Classification: Junior

Greetings to the administration and my fellow students,

Our theme for this year “Empowering leadership, one student at a time” is reflective of the SGA’s desire to motivate students to embrace the challenge of leadership and excelling in their various disciplines. “Only the best is good enough” has been a personal life philosophy for me and is the view point to which I approach all tasks ahead of me, the students of Claflin University deserve no less. It is my hope this year that the efforts of the CUSGA will facilitate and encourage a positive transformation in the lives of our student body.

Petrina Phillips

Major: Mass Communication with concentrations in Public Relations and
           Broadcast Journalism
Classification: Junior

At the end of my tenure serving and working with the S.G.A, I hope that the organization will contribute to the holistic growth and development of the students, through programs geared towards spiritual, mental, and physical health and wellness, and socialization. I also hope that the S.G.A will help to equip students with the skills, tools, and information that will enable them to effectively compete with their colleagues, on a global basis, while also contributing to the preservation and enhancement of the integrity, quality, character, and reputation of Claflin University, the #1 Premier Liberal Arts institution.

Corresponding Secretary
Bobby Belton Jr.
Hometown: Winnsborro County, SC
Major: Mass Communication
Classification: Junior

Tomorrow is not promised, so live each day as if it’s your last. As Corresponding Secretary of SGA I think we as students should seize every opportunity today because tomorrow that same chance will not be there to achieve. Life is too short for us to not walk through each door in which God opens for us. In everything, give thanks. God gives us life and choices, so let’s make these choice good ones together.

Business Manager
Curtis Chandler
Hometown: Kingstree, SC
Major: Business Management
Classification: Junior

This year, I am looking forward to learning and mastering the duties of an effective and efficient SGA Business Manager. I plans to do this by keeping an open mind, and thinking positive. Also I believes that students should always have something to do on campus (small or great). I am a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity inc. and the Alice Carson Honors College. Additionally, I am very active within my church, serving as a chief musician, and youth mentor. To my fellow executive officers, “Divided, we will fall, but together we will stand!”

Chaplain
Andre` Maurice Lemon
Hometown: Manning, South Carolina
Major:  Music Education- voice and piano concentration
Class: Senior

My aspirations are to become a choral director on the high school level and one day matriculate to the collegiate level. I also aspire to become a concert and gospel choir clinician, and accopanist for different choirs and soloists. One day I plan to open my own music studio of voice and piano, because I want musicians to become arrive at the highest level of musicianship while at a young age. I believe that with God, all things are possible if we believe.

Miss Claflin University 2007-2008
Lakisha Lockhart
Hometown: Columbus, GA
Major: Philosophy & Religion major  with a minor in Spanish
Classification: Senior

I am a proud member of the Gamma Chi chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc and Alpha Mu Gamma and the Alice Carson Tisdale Honors College. I am elated to be a part of SGA this year so that I may contribute my ideas, my dedication, and work with the other SGA members.  I am a very committed and hands-on person and I look forward to getting a lot accomplished with the SGA family. My philosophy on life is best summed up by the words of philosopher F. Nietzsche, “I am not man, I am dynamite.”  In life I do not strive to be average, I strive to be more; I strive to be explosive and memorable, making an impact where ever I go.
