Title IX Statement

It is the policy of Claflin University to comply with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, which states, “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subject to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance."

Under Title IX, discrimination on the basis of sex includes sexual harassment and sexual violence, such as rape, sexual assault, sexual battery and sexual coercion.

Claflin University has a Title IX Coordinator and Deputy Coordinators assigned to comply with the “Governing Law” and respond to inquiries concerning Title IX.

INVESTIGATIONS

The Title IX Coordinator/a Deputy Coordinator and/or a Campus Police Investigator will meet with an individual who is considering filing a Title IX complaint. At that meeting, information will be provided regarding the process for filing a complaint. For more specific information regarding Title IX, students should review the Student Handbook. University faculty and staff should review University Policy Number 200.18: Policy on Harassment.
