Accreditation

Claflin University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award baccalaureate and masters degrees. Contact the Commission on Colleges at 1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097 or call 404-679-4500 for questions about the accreditation of Claflin University.

The University is approved by the University Senate of the United Methodist Church for listing as a United Methodist Church related institution. The School of Education is accredited by the National Association for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and by the South Carolina State Board of Education. The University’s School of Business Administration is nationally accredited by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) to offer the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and in Organizational Management. The Department of Music is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM). The Department of Chemistry is approved by the American Chemical Society (ACS).

SACS Reaffirmation of Accreditation

Every ten years, all accredited colleges in the southern states must be reaffirmed to demonstrate that they continue to meet the accreditation standards of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Claflin University was first accredited by SACS in 1948. The next reaffirmation is 2021.

SACS reaffirmed Claflin University’s accreditation in December of 2011. The University maintains the standards specified by SACS "Principles of Accreditation" and notifies SACS of any substantive changes.

Upcoming Reaffirmation Visit: September 30- October 2, 2012
Issues/Update: Claflin University’s NCATE Institutional Report was submitted on April 6, 2012.  Special Program Assessment (SPA) Reports for English (7-12); Mathematics (7-12) and Art (7-12) were included with this submission as well. Revised SPA Reports for early childhood, elementary and middle level programs were submitted on March 15, 2012, as required. Claflin University will receive feedback regarding areas in need of attention after the June 10- 12, 2012 Off-Site review is completed. Opportunity for responses   and the addressing of problem areas will be given in the form of an Addendum prior to Claflin University NCATE/State On-Site Continuing Accreditation visit in fall 2012.
