Dean, School of Humanities and Social Sciences
Claflin University seeks a creative and visionary leader to serve as the Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences to direct and develop progressive educational programs. The School of Humanities and Social Sciences is comprised of the following departments: Art, English, History and Sociology, Mass Communications, Music, and Religion and Philosophy.
As a member of the academic leadership team, the Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences reports to the Provost and represents and advocates for faculty, students, and overall quality of academic programs of the School. The Dean is expected to evidence a leadership style characterized by transparency and professional integrity that inspires cooperation, innovation, creativity, and respect among faculty, students, administrators, and staff. The Dean is responsible for fundraising and professional activities that support the budgetary/fiscal health of the School; implementation of high quality educational policies; recruitment, evaluation and retention of faculty; as well as issues related to cultural inclusion, advisement and globalism.
QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate must possess an earned doctorate in the Arts, Humanities or Social Sciences with a proven record of academic accomplishments, scholarship, and teaching excellence. The candidate must possess a distinguished academic record commensurate with the appointment as a tenured faculty member in one of the disciplines within the School. He/she must exhibit demonstrated effectiveness in academic program planning and evaluation, curriculum development, and student learning outcomes’ assessment. Other desired characteristics include demonstrated success in academic leadership, the ability to enhance/promote existing programs, the ability to recruit and develop a diverse faculty, and the skills to foster interdisciplinary collaboration with other academic programs within the School and University, and throughout the community.
