The academic programs in the Department of Philosophy and Religion, introduces students to the major figures and ideas in both Eastern and Western religious thought and philosophy. Philosophy and Religion majors also explore the role of philosophy and religion in the shaping of human culture. A major in Philosophy and Religion is an excellent preparation for Divinity School, Law School or Graduate School.

The study of Philosophy and Religion is an intellectual endeavor first and foremost, because it involves questions about fundamental issues of human existence. Therefore, the study of Philosophy and Religion can and should involve a personal journey, one in which academic study and personal beliefs are in continual dialogue.

Reading assignments include critical works by major religious thinkers, the classics as well as contemporary and critical works. Students work tends to be writing intensive, ranging from short essays to lengthy research papers so students will benefit from opportunities to work individually with professors.

All faculty an the department serves as advisor to the students.

After graduation you can pursue on a dynamic career!
Many of our graduates continue their education in divinity school, law school or a graduate program in philosophy or religion. To that end, our curriculum is designed to nurture scholarly skills.
