FACULTY ACHIEVEMENTS:

  • Dr. Somasundaram Velummylum attended the summer "Management Development Program" at Harvard University. This attendance was supported by the Center for Excellence and Harvard University.
  • Mr.Sumithran Rasathurai defended  his Master Thesis in Statistics in August, 2006.
  • Dr.Velummylum presented a paper at the Summer International Conference on Maple held in Waterloo, Canada. The title of the paper was " The Use of Maple in Visualization and Computation of the Elements of the Cyclic Group Generated by a Root of Unity".
  • Mr. Ananda Mondal worked on a project supported by the summer research grant money provided by the Center for Excellence. Mr. Mondal created a manual that can be used in the existing Computer Networks course by showing only the output of each module. This would provide a visualization of what actually happens during a packet-flow through the internet This would also provide better detail about the abstract theory of networking phenomena.

STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTS:

  • A paper titled "Improving Bayesian Spam Filters using String Edit Distance Algorithm"based on the work done by our recent graduate, Mrs. Farhana Aleen, was recently submitted to IEEE Internet Computing journal for potential publication. The authors of the paper are Ms. Aleen and Dr.K.Mahalingam.

  • Darius Hillard, an engineering transfer program student got second place in the oral presentation at the “Annual Science and Engineering Research Conference” held at South Carolina State University. The research was supported by SCAMP and performed at Clemson University. The title of the presentation was “ Anti-Static and Zero-CTE films: Role of Carbon Nanofibers in LLDPE and TLCP Base Polymers.

  • Kemdy Lawson ( Math major) got admitted into Purdue University to pursue his M.S track to Ph.D. in mechanical engineering. David Udah (Computer Science major) got admitted into the masters program in civil engineering at George Mason University.

  • Out of the five mathematics graduates one of them (Kemdy Lawson) is attending graduate school in Purdue for Masters track to Ph.D. in mechanical engineering One Computer Science graduate (David Udah ) got accepted into the graduate program in computer science at George Mason University. Two MIS majors (Earnest Mensah and Rebbeca Kariuki), two computer science majors ( Samuel Deyacaza and Rachel Chimbaundah) and one mathematics major( Tufantsi Daniel) got job offers in companies such as Morgan Stanley and Credit Suisse in New York.
