For 139 years, Claflin University has been guided by a vision of excellence in education, in research and in graduating outstanding men and women who lead and serve selflessly. Our vision, during the last 15 years, of preparing a diverse population of students who complete and succeed in a global and technological society has evolved significantly due to the encouragement and loyal support of alumni and friends. Because of their generous funding and the dedication of our leadership, faculty and staff, Claflin University is now recognized as one of the premier liberal arts institutions in the country.

The Division of Institutional Advancement has developed along with the mission and vision of the University. We have greatly increased the flow of funds,  expanded relationships with alumni, with students and their parents, and have strengthened ties with external constituencies while communicating and promoting Claflin’s achievements to new and widening audiences.

We are particularly pleased that our Annual Alumni Giving (37%) is ranked #1 in the South by U.S. News & World Report “America’s Best Colleges, 2009.” Other key recent accomplishments by the University include:

  • Ranked by Forbes.com at the “Best HBCU” in the country
  • Listed by Forbes.com in the top 4% of all colleges and universities
  • Ranked by U.S. News & World Report for the 11th consecutive year as one of “America’s Best Colleges”
  • Ranked by U.S. News & World Report as #7 among “America’s Best Black Colleges”
  • Ranked by U.S. News & World Report as #2 for “Best Value” in the South and Best Value in South Carolina
  • Ranked by Consumers Digest as #3 for “Best Value” among Top Private Colleges and Universities
  • Ranked by the Chronicle of Higher Education as #2 for our retention rate among “Very Selective HBCUs”
  • Ranked by The Journal of Blacks in Higher Education as #2 for our graduation rate

To continue to advance the University’s goals, we have strategically positioned ourselves to actively connect to our growing circle of supporters who are committed, as we are, to Claflin’s universal potential.  We are on course to become one of the world’s leading institutions of higher education by developing men and women of vision who demonstrate extraordinary achievement, distinctive confidence and a lifelong desire to transform society through leadership and service.

To learn more about supporting Claflin and its mission of preparing world visionaries, I invite you to contact me or members of the Advancement staff. We look forward to personally telling you about funding opportunities for our alumni and friends.
