CLAFLIN UNIVERSITY, founded in 1869 and affiliated with The United Methodist Church, is recognized as one of the premier comprehensive institutions in the southeast. The University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and offers broad based education in liberal arts and sciences combined with internships and other career focused programs. The institution also has nationally accredited programs: the Business program by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP); The teacher Education program by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE); The chemistry program by the American Chemical Society (ACS); and the Music program by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM).
Claflin offers the undergraduate degree in 33 areas and three graduate programs: the Master of Business Administration, the Master of Science in Biotechnology, and the Master of Educational Studies. U.S. News & World Report, in it 2008 Guidebook to America’s Best Colleges and Universities, ranked Claflin tenth among Baccalaureate Colleges in the South and singled out the University for its High Graduation Rate. Further, Consumers Digest has recently ranked Claflin University number three nationally in its “Top 5 Best Value” category among Private Colleges and Universities.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES |
Claflin University seeks a creative and visionary leader to serve as the Dean of the Center for Professional and Continuing Studies to direct and develop dynamic educational programs that will enhance the unit’s performance at every level.
The Dean is expected to be a leader, manager and an innovator with the responsibility of ensuring that the unit operates with a focus on providing the maximum benefit to the University and its off-campus constituencies – students, organizations, and communities. She/he must understand the higher education environment and marketplace, and aggressively pursue growth in both quality and programming. The Dean provides oversight for marketing and recruitment activities, budget and student service operations, and all new program initiatives.

| QUALIFICATIONS |
The successful candidate must possess an earned doctorate with a sustained record of academic accomplishment and a proven record of increasing responsibility in academic administration of Continuing Education programs. Expectations include a demonstrated success in academic leadership, the ability to enhance/promote existing programs, the ability to recruit and develop a diverse faculty, and the skills to foster interdisciplinary collaboration with other academic programs within the University and throughout the community. The Dean must have a thorough knowledge of entrepreneurship, excellent communication skills, a solid academic vision, and expertise in fiscal management.
SALARY: Commensurate with experience.
