CLAFLIN UNIVERSITY, founded in 1869 and affiliated with The United Methodist Church, is recognized as one of the premier comprehensive institutions in the southeast.  The University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and offers broad based education in liberal arts and sciences combined with internships and other career focused programs.  The institution also has nationally accredited programs:  the Business program by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP); The teacher Education program by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE); The chemistry program by the American Chemical Society (ACS); and the Music program by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM).

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

The part-time Reference Librarians will report to the Library Director and are responsible for directing the evening and/or weekend work of the Reference and Circulation Department.  Conducts bibliographic instructions; provides reference service to library patrons; participates in collection development for the Reference Department and the regular collection; provides interlibrary loan service; prepares library resource guides and other handouts; works with IT to update the library webpage; supervises student assistants; and participates in other campus activities.

QUALIFICATIONS

ALA-accredited master’s of Library Science is required.  Reference experience in an academic setting, experience with online library systems, online databases and the internet are strongly preferred. The successful candidate must have exceptional customer service, organizational and communications skills.
