DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

The Academic Student Support Counselor (ASSC) provides administrative, academic advisement and student services support for the Center for Professional and Continuing Studies (CPCS). The ASSC reports to the Dean of The Center for Professional and Continuing Studies in support of all recruitment efforts and prepare enrollment reports; conduct research to collect information and scholastic data on high achieving potential students in South Carolina and across the nation, while identifying areas for concentrated recruitment efforts as well as assist with the planning and implementation of recruitment conferences. He/she will serve as site coordinator and will be responsible for all day-to-day counseling activities; and provide academic counseling to Continuing Studies students, monitor students’ classes and recruit and retain students in the CPCS program throughout degree completion. He/she will work closely with the Director of Admissions, specifically with transcript evaluations; coordinate with financial aid office to coordinate financial procedures as well as supervise and assist facilitators at the site; and secure facilitators for the teaching of the program modules. The ASSC will coordinate the annual market plan including an advertising schedule and perform other administrative tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline is preferred. Candidate must possess a working knowledge of the principles and procedures of the recruitment process. Knowledge and experience in Microsoft with Word, Access and Excel; possess excellent interpersonal presentation and communication skills specifically related to writing and producing reports and other critical documentation. The candidate must have ability to relate positively to students, faculty, staff, administrators, and the community; strong analytical and organizational skills; and possess independence to work with minimal supervision required.  Previous work-related experience in an educational or similar environment is required.
