Sponsored Programs Administrator (22019)

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

The Sponsored Programs Administrator (SPA) reports to the Director of Sponsored Programs and Title III Administrator.  He/she is responsible for developing and implementing programs and interpreting the program’s policies and procedures; providing advice on policies, procedures and laws to ensure that program operations meet federal requirements and interpretations are consistent; and preparing operations and procedures manuals to assist management in operating more efficiently and effectively.  The SPA performs an array of technical, training, research, planning, policy, program assessment, and administrative activities.  Specific duties include but are not limited to preparing and sending post-commitment information packages to Project Directors/Principal Investigators; ensuring completeness of project financial reports; generating, reviewing and reconciling Time and Effort Reports; and reviewing and approving Temporary Employment Agreement Forms, Personnel and Position Recommendation Forms and other employee contracts.  He/she analyzes financial reports and makes recommendations for approval to the Director; classifies and sends to a physical or electronic filing system all relevant information related to the financial, administrative and legal aspects of sponsored projects; and designs training and workshop materials in the areas of grants and contracts and other sponsored program management for faculty and staff.  Perform other duties assigned by the Director.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Business or a related discipline and/or an equivalent combination of experience/training may substitute for the required education.  The successful candidate must possess considerable knowledge of sponsored programs, grant management, accounting and business management, budget preparation procedures, and department administration.  Demonstrated ability to interpret policies and procedures; read and interpret contracts; communicate effectively orally and in writing; provide leadership to PIs/PDs; and prepare budgets and monitor fiscal actions. The applicant selected must be able to work independently with minimum supervision; have considerable knowledge of laws, legal codes, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, agency rules, and the democratic political process; and be knowledgeable of Jenzabar and infomaker, word processing and spreadsheet software.  Previous experience working as a Grants Administrator in a sponsored research or administrative program is strongly preferred.
