DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

The Library Specialist Senior reports to the Library Director and organizes and directs the work of the Circulation Department.  Provides assistance with the maintenance, implementation and development of the library’s automation system, network, and computers.  Utilizes library online system in performance of duties, coordinates the input of patron data into online system and maintains accurate patron data and circulation statistics.  Maintains stacks, prepares overdue notices in a timely manner and troubleshoots system and computer workstation.   Assists with inventory, weeding and technical processing; provides excellent customer service; and assists in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, and policies and regulations for the department and the library.   Supervises circulation staff and student assistants and participates on various committees.  Performs any other duties assigned within the scope of this position.

QUALIFICATIONS

Master's degree in library science is required.  A master’s degree in library science is strongly preferred.  A minimum of five years of library experience in an academic setting is strongly preferred. Applicants must possess knowledge of library practices, policies, laws and procedures.  Experience with online library systems, online databases and the Internet is required.  The successful candidate must have exceptional customer service, organizational and communication skills
