Senior Scientist/Advanced Research Associate

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES The Senior Scientist will report to the Professor of Biology and Director of the South Carolina Center for Biotechnology. The Senior Scientist is responsible for working on the development of a new type of bacteria that can ferment alcohol related products from non-food items like wood chips and cellulosic biomass. He/she will be required to work on multiple confidential biofuel related projects and perform any other duties assigned by the Director within the scope of this position.

| QUALIFICATIONS
A master’s degree in Biology or Biotechnology, Microbiology or Agriculture Food Sciences. The successful candidate must have prior experience with microbiology, anaerobic microbes, PCR, microbial culture and molecular biology methods. Working knowledge with cell biology and research in microbiology is a plus. The applicant should be able to follow instructions precisely and perform the experiments according to the protocols; analyze and interpret data; and communicate effectively.
