Stillman Shocks Panthers with 9-8 Victory


Stillman College got on the scoreboard first scoring a run in the bottom of the first inning.  Claflin tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the second, and took the lead 2-1 in the top of the 3rd.


Claflin ties the game at 1-1 on an rbi single by Chauncey Davis, plating Travis Griffin.  The Panthers took the lead in the top of the 3rd scoring a single run, when Julio Iglesias doubled down the left-field line, and scored on a Julius McDougal triple to left, for a 2-1 lead.


Stillman took the lead in the bottom of the 6th inning scoring three runs. With Brown on third, Chamberlin flied out to left, as Brown scored.  McCreless reached on an error by the Panthers’ shortstop. Hall then singled to left.  Rennspies then doubled to center-field, and drove in McCreless and Hall. Bryant flied out to center to end the inning.


The Panthers fireworks began in the top of the 7th as McDougal and Edward Randolph reached on errors, and Travis Griffin singled down the first base line to load the bases.  Brett Bullard tripled to right-field that plated McDougal, Randolph, and Griffin.   After a pitching change, Chauncey Davis walked, Donald Smith walked, and Iglesias was hit by a pitch to score Bullard for Claflin.  Herrera struck out, and Brown singled to right to drive in Davis and Smith, as Claflin scored six runs in the inning.      


The Stillman Tigers scored three runs in their half of the 7th.   Beal began the scoring after two out, singling to center, Jackson doubled down the left-field line, as Beal score on a Claflin throwing error.   Brown reached on a Panther throwing error, Chamberlin walked, Rennspies walked to plate Jackson. And Brown scored on a passed ball, and Gregory struck out to end the inning, for an 8-7 Claflin lead. 


After a scoreless 8th and top of the 9th, Stillman’s McCreless singled to center. Hall singled to left.  Rennspies reached on a fielders’ choice as McCreless was tagged out at third.  Yance walked to load the bases. Beal singled down the right-field line, for the game winning hit, as Hall and Rennspies scored, and Stilllman shocked the Panthers 9-8.



The Tigers were led at the plate by, Rennspies going 2-4, with three rbi, and three runs scored.  Beal was 3-6, with an rbi, and a run scored, and Brown 2-4, with an rbi, and two runs scored.  Chamberlin was credited with the win.


Brett Bullard led Claflin going 3-5, with three rbi, and a run scored.  Randolph Brown 2-5, with a double and two rbi.  Julio Iglesias 2-4, with an rbi, and a run scored.  Travis Griffin was 2-4 with a run scored.  Randolph took the loss for the Panthers.


The loss drops Claflin into the loser’s bracket, with a 2:00 pm contest, with the winner of the Tuskegee/Albany State game, at 10:00 am.
