President Dr. Henry N. Tisdale addresses the audience at last year’s Matriculation Day Convocation.
On Thursday, Sept. 8, Claflin University will celebrate one of its greatest traditions by holding its Matriculation Day Convocation at 11 a.m. in the Tullis Arena of the Jonas T. Kennedy Physical Education Center .
The Convocation signals the official start of the 2011-2012 academic year and serve as a formal welcome to the Class of 2015 and returning students.
The theme for the Convocation is “Preparing Visionary Leaders for Global Challenges.” President Dr. Henry N. Tisdale said the Convocation serves as a platform to inspire students, faculty, and staff to continue the goal of Claflin becoming one of the premier undergraduate teaching and research institutions in the world with global perspectives.
“The Matriculation Day Convocation is a time for all members of the Claflin University family to assemble for a common purpose,” Tisdale said. “It gives us a chance to reflect on recent successes and prepare for opportunities for continued success at this great institution. ”
During his remarks, Tisdale will highlight goals for the academic year that are in concert with the University's comprehensive Strategic Plan. The new officers of the Student Government Association will be formerly installed as well.
The Claflin Class of 2015 is composed of 421 individuals from all over the country. There are 11 international students in the freshmen class hailing from Trinidad and Tobago, Nepal, Bahamas, Kenya, Ghana and Nigeria. The University received more than 4,000 applicants for this academic year, demonstrating its attraction and strong reputation.
