Claflin University junior Aubrey Jackson says she's ready to imagine the possibilities as Miss Homecoming 2011. Jackson will be officially assuming her title during a special crowning ceremony on Sunday, Nov. 13.
She says she is excited to be a part of Claflin's rich history and wants to promote student unity this Homecoming season, which has the theme “Imagine the Possibilities”.
“I am so honored and proud to represent Claflin University,” Jackson said.
With the crown, Jackson will be this year's face of Homecoming 2011 and play an integral role in planning the festivities. Also, it is her duty to encourage school spirit. It's a role she is fully embracing.
“I thoroughly believe there is power in numbers,” Jackson said. “If the Claflin student body will come together in celebration and support of Homecoming 2011, then the Panther Pride and spirit will illuminate across campus!”
Jackson came to Claflin from Greenville Technical Charter High School, where she served in several leadership roles. She says she felt an immediate connection with the University and the faculty, staff and students. “My experience thus far has been nothing short of amazing,” she said.
The mass communication major serves as vice president of the Mass Communications Society and is a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success. In addition, she is a member of the Gamma Nu chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc. and is a former Miss Pre-Alumni Council, an organization which she currently serves on the executive board.
After Claflin, Jackson will attend graduate school for journalism. Her ultimate goal is to become a leading news reporter.
The crowning ceremony will start at 2 p.m. in the W.V. Middleton Fine Arts Center. For more information, please contact Denver Malcom, academic student support coordinator, by phone at (803) 535-5478 or by e-mail at email@example.com.
