A nationally recognized financial expert and social activist, Dr. Boyce Watkins, will speak to freshman students on Tuesday, Feb. 7.
Watkins can regularly be seen as a commentator on all leading television networks and frequently featured in The New York Times, USA Today and The Washington Post, among many others. The Syracuse University scholar in residence for entrepreneurship and innovation specializes in financial psychology, education motivation and black social commentary.
He is the author of five books, including his latest “Financial Lovemaking 101” – an innovative look on how to engage couples on managing their money responsibly. Watkins has also been appointed as a visiting scholar to prestigious institutions such as Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, The Center for Economic Research and Carnegie Mellon University.
As an undergraduate at the University of Kentucky, Watkins earned three bachelor's degrees in finance, economics and business management. He was chosen by The Wall Street Journal as the Outstanding Graduating Senior in Finance. Watkins went on to earn a Master's degree in mathematical statistics and a Ph.D. in finance from Ohio State University.
The event will begin at 11 a.m. in the Moss Auditorium of the W.V. Middleton Fine Arts Center on campus. It is free and open to the public.
