Claflin University will launch its newest art exhibit titled An Artist Perspective of the Universe featuring the works of local artist Jim Hardee from Oct. 8- Nov. 2.
An opening reception will be held on Thursday, Oct. 18 at 5:30 p.m. in the Arthur Rose Museum.
Hardee, a native of Kinston, N.C., is a retired pilot and flight instructor. He relocated to Orangeburg in 1978. After taking an art course from Bretta Staley, ’77, he was inspired by the shading technique and decided to create his own art series.
Hardee’s work focuses on texture, highlights and shadows. Chair of the Art Department Alvin Staley, ’77, encourages the community to come see the exhibit and also tour the beautiful Claflin campus.
“Jim Hardee is one of the area’s truly innovative and outstanding artists,” said Staley. “This is a great opportunity for the citizens of Orangeburg to discover an artist from their own backyard.”
