Homecoming Greek Step Show 2013 proved to be the year of the elephant and the rabbit.
Bragging rights for Claflin’s annual stepfest belong to the Divas of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. and the Sophisticated Gents of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., both capturing back-to-back titles.
Both Crimson & Cream step teams outstomped other worthy members of the Divine Nine Black Greek Organizations before hundreds of students and alumni on Nov. 16.
Supporters and members of the Royal Blue & Gold, Blue & White, Black & Gold and Pink & Green cheered on their favorite steppers as they displayed the latest variations of their signature step dances, foot stomps, body claps and chants.
Deltas adorned in Jeannie outfits duck walked their way to a crown. Kappas decked out in white dress shirts, black slacks and red ties twirled and tapped two canes to the harmonizing stomps of their stepmates. When the dust had cleared, the sound of the clack, clack, boom had prevailed.
Donte Davis, member of the Gamma Nu chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi explained, “You saw the results of a lot of hard work. The key was making sure our execution was on point.”
Celena Snoddy Stepper, a delighted sister of the Gamma Chi chapter of Delta Sigma Theta said, “The win was something that we definitely worked hard for. The show was entertaining and we accomplished what we set out to do.”
