Friday, Jan. 31, many Claflin students joined with South Carolina State University students for the Candlelight Vigil at Auditorium at 6 p.m. in remembrance of Brandon Robinson, the SCSU student killed in a campus shooting on Jan. 24.
There were quite a few students who attended Orangeburg-Wilkinson High with Brandon Robinson attending the memorial service. They were joined by faculty, parents and community.
South Carolina State Student Government Association President Akeem Brown said that "the tragic life of the football player affected him (Brown) not only as a leader among his peers, but also personally."
Another speaker was Robinson's former coach from Orangeburg- Wilkinson, Tommy Brown, who described Brandon as one-of-a-kind. He said he knows Brandon is in heaven making everyone smile.
Although the tragedy of the situation was horrible, it was nice seeing Claflin and SCSU coming together at a time like this.
