The Humanities Council of South Carolina has awarded Claflin University an $8,000 grant to start a lecture series on the state’s African-American composers and perform their works.

University Chaplain Rev. Dr. Ken J. Walden’s recent interview with noted South Carolina historian Dr. Walter Edgar will be featured on SCETV Radio Friday, Nov. 16. The interview will highlight Walden’s journey as a pastor from South Carolina to North Carolina, Detroit, California and back, according to Edgar’s site on SCETV.com. It will air at 12:01 a.m. this evening. SCETV Radio can be found in the Midlands at WLTR-FM 91.3

Rev. Jonathan Holston, the new bishop of the South Carolina Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, will deliver the keynote address at the 143rd Claflin University Founders’ Day Convocation at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 18 in the Jonas T. Kennedy Health and Physical Education Center.

The Rev. George F. Manigo, Jr. and Rose L. Manigo are marshals for the 2012 Claflin University Homecoming Parade on Saturday, Nov. 17. The parade starts at 9:30 a.m. at Edisto Memorial Gardens and ends on the Claflin University campus.
