Rev. Jonathan Holston, the new bishop of the South Carolina Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, will deliver the keynote address at the 143rd Claflin University Founders’ Day Convocation at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 18 in the Jonas T. Kennedy Health and Physical Education Center.

The Rev. George F. Manigo, Jr. and Rose L. Manigo are marshals for the 2012 Claflin University Homecoming Parade on Saturday, Nov. 17. The parade starts at 9:30 a.m. at Edisto Memorial Gardens and ends on the Claflin University campus.

In sports, working well and knowing your teammate often equates to a recipe for success. Ricky Hill and Ed Johnson proved that old adage to be true at the 7th Annual Claflin University Golf Classic on Nov. 2 by firing an incredible 57 to win the two-man best ball tournament. The tournament raised $24,720 to support the Focus 100 Scholarship Fund.

Claflin University students careened across an atmosphere the world was watching on Oct. 15, dressed in full costume and makeup from the antebellum period in preparation for their time in the spotlight. There were media trucks and reporters everywhere, all readying for the second presidential debate. But for a time in the glare and media frenzy of a pre-presidential debate, there stood the Claflin contingent of students and Annette Grevious, associate professor of speech and theater arts. Grevious and the students were far, far away from Orangeburg. They were booked at Hofstra University, site of the second presidential debate.
