  • Claflin University Receives $30,000 UNCF/Mellon Faculty Teaching and Learning Grant

    Claflin University announces the receipt of a $30,000 Teaching and Learning Institute Grant from the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) and the Mellon Foundation. The award will be used for a three-day institute at Clafin on June 1- 3, that includes an interdisciplinary group of scholars from other UNCF institutions. The purpose of the institute is to prepare students at HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) for global leadership through their engagement with world literature and culture.

  • Claflin Honors Golden Class of 1965

    The annual President's Luncheon honoring Claflin University’s Golden Class of 1965 on Friday, May 8, provided classmates an opportunity to reminisce and renew relationships. Held in venerable Ministers’ Hall as part of Commencement Weekend, the luncheon celebrated alumni who graduated from Claflin University 50 years ago. Included in the class is Dr. Henry N. Tisdale, who returned to his alma mater as the University’s eighth president in1994

  • Your Lives Matter: Graduating Class Urged to Commit to Excellence, Give Back

    Claflin Commencement speaker Marc Morial, CEO and President of the National Urban League, told graduates Saturday that though a Claflin degree may lead to crystal stairs, there will be obstacles along the way. “That stair case will have broken floor boards and be rough and stormy in some spots,” he said. “Claflin has prepared you to walk that crystal stair.” Claflin conferred 380 undergraduate and graduate degrees to students for across the nation and world, with three percent of the graduating class being international students. Morial used the theme “Black Lives Matter, Your Lives Matter, All Lives Matter” to encourage students to be change agents and make an impact in their chosen professions.

  • Mother, Daughter Graduates Share Experiences at Claflin University

    Nearly two years passed before graduating senior Tyler Breland discovered that her mother was also attending Claflin University. On Saturday, May 9, Tyler Breland will graduate summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in marketing and her mother will graduate magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in organizational management during Claflin University’s 145th Commencement Convocation.
