Margaret Stephens, ’74, has returned to her alma mater as special assistant to the vice president for institutional advancement as part of a detail with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Two Claflin University alumni are returning to their alma mater to chair departments in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. Award winning art teacher Alvin Staley, ’77, will lead the Department of Art while Rev. Dr. Robin Dease, ’92, is the new chair of the Department of Philosophy and Religion.

Claflin University Athletics Director Dr. Jerome Fitch has announced the hiring of Christopher V. Woods as head coach for the men’s and women’s cross country and track and field teams.

I actually really love it here. Claflin is exceeding my expectations,” said incoming freshman Juleanna Thorpe from Woodbridge, Va. Thorpe was one of more than 430 freshmen from all across the country and the world that started their transition into higher education at Claflin University last week.

Dr. William Emanuel, a fellow with the Environmental Defense Fund’s Climate Crops, has spent the past 10 weeks at Claflin University analyzing data to cut electricity usage while educating the campus community on how to do it.
