In one way or another, Edith Frederick has spent a majority of her life on the campus of Claflin University. During the 18th Annual Rewards and Recognition Luncheon for faculty and staff, Ms. Frederick was honored for 42 years of service to the University. She is now retired.

“Some of us had not each seen each other in 50 years. We’re so honored to serve and enjoy five decades of our alma mater,” said Hattie Whitmire, a 2011 inductee into the Claflin University Hall of Fame and member of the 1962 Golden Class.

After four years at Claflin University, Brandyce Coes is going places. She says her Claflin experience has afforded her many opportunities including a summer internship at Harvard University and $25,000 research scholarship with the pharmaceutical giant Merck.

Philana Payton was cautiously optimistic – emphasis on the caution – when she learned that she may be the Claflin University Class of 2012’s valedictorian.

Like many of his classmates, Aaron Shepherd is weighing his options. He’s part of the 381 strong Class of 2012 that’s ready to embark on the world.
