Claflin University officials signed a memorandum of understanding Jan. 10 with the South Carolina College of Pharmacy to establish a three+one degree articulation program that would eventually end with graduating students receiving a Doctor of Pharmacy degree.

Claflin University Trustee Rev. Larry D. McCutcheon will be recognized with James E. Stamp Award from the United Negro College Fund on Feb. 15 in Atlanta.

U.S. Congressman Elijah E. Cummings of Maryland’s Seventh District will be the keynote speaker for Claflin University’s 2013 Spring Convocation on Thursday, Jan. 24.

Clergy and laity from churches across South Carolina and beyond will gather at Claflin University to discuss the church's role in leadership. The annual Granville Hicks Leadership Academy for Laity and Clergy will be held on the Claflin campus from Thursday, Jan. 31 to Friday, Feb. 1.

A prestigious honor has come to a member of the Claflin University Board of Trustees. Calvin H. Elam was promoted to Brigadier General, becoming the first African-American to achieve this rank in the S.C. Air National Guard. Elam has been a member of the University’s Board of Trustees since 2009 and currently serves as chair of the Board’s Budget and Finance Committee. He was promoted during a special ceremony Sunday.
