Grammy Award Winner Peabo Bryson To Perform Friday at Claflin University’s Presidential Scholarship Gala

A performance by Grammy Award winning singer Peabo Bryson will highlight the 22nd Annual Presidential Scholarship Gala on Friday (Nov. 18) at 6 p.m. in Tullis Arena, Jonas T. Kennedy Health and Physical Education Center. Bryson’s top hits include “If Ever You're in My Arms Again,” “A Whole New World” and “Tonight I Celebrate My Love.”
In addition to the concert, several distinguished alumni will be inducted into the Claflin University Hall of Fame which honors alumni and supporters who have made significant contributions to Claflin University and their respective communities. William Price '64; Trinidell White Thomas '72 and Vernell Johnson Williams '59 (posthumously) will be inducted for their leadership and achievements in education. Martin L. Williams '71 will be inducted for his outstanding career in community service.
The introduction of the 2016-2017 Presidential Scholars will be another crowning moment of the Gala. Presidential Scholars are high-achieving Claflin students who receive full tuition, room and board, and a book stipend as a result of their outstanding academic accomplishments.
Since its inception, the Gala has raised more than $2.9 million to benefit Presidential Scholars.
This year’s scholarship recipients are: Sebrena Brink, a freshman biology major, Spartanburg, S.C.; Preston Bruce, a sophomore bioinformatics major, St. Louis, Mo.; Sakshyam Dahal, a senior computer science major, Orangeburg, S.C.; Lauren Everett, a freshman political science major, Florissant, Mo.; Daniel Farquharson, a freshman biology major, Hollis, N.Y.; Ajaicia Hopkins, a sophomore biotechnology major, Columbia, S.C.; Chieu Nguyen, a freshman digital design major, Glendale, Ariz.; Brandon Sanders, a freshman biology major, Marion, S.C. and Jira White, a freshman biochemistry major, Mason, Ohio.
The Presidential Scholarship Gala is one of several events scheduled this weekend during Claflin’s 2016 Homecoming: "Claflin LEADS – A Shared Vision for the 21st Century."
