The Gamma Nu Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity at Claflin University returned from their Annual Provincial (the states of Georgia, South Carolina, and the country of South Africa) Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia big winners recently.

The chapter was named the 2007 James B. Hardy Small Chapter of the Year, beating out first runner-up Georgia State University.  This award is bestowed upon the chapter with the most appropriately documented “Guide Right”, Community Service, Social, and Civic Activities, as well as, their contribution to the University and community as a whole.  They will now compete for the 2007 Edward G. Irvin Small Chapter of the Year, the International equivalent title, in July.  The chapter also brought back to Orangeburg the title Quiz Bowl Winners for the second consecutive year.

This event was sponsored by Best Buy, a leader in electronic sales. This distinction is given to the undergraduate chapter that knows the most about Kappa History, Protocol, Chapters, & Famous Kappas.  The chapter was triumphant over the University of Georgia for this honor of which they competed against in the final round.  Other competitors included Georgia Tech, Clemson University, Albany State University, Paine College, Newberry College, and Benedict College.

In addition to these chapter awards, Brandon Mack, the chapter’s Chief Executive Officer 2006-2007 and recent Claflin Graduate, was the recipient of the Polemarch’s Award, the highest award given to an undergraduate student based on his campus and community involvement, as well as, GPA.  Russell Stewart, past team captain of the Men’s Panther Basketball Team, was awarded the David Dupree Award, the highest award given to an undergraduate for athletic, as well as, academic excellence.  And finally, Brandon Hicks, Student Government Association Vice President 2006-2007 and Mr. Clalfin University Elect 2007-2008, was named Student of the Year, beating out a student again from the University of Georgia in the final round, in his astounding performance of “I Need You Now” by Smokie Norful, also a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

With all these accolades, the chapter, along with their advisor, Mr. Tedro R. Rouse, Adjunct Instructor of Public Speaking at the University, will now travel to Minneapolis, Minnesota in July for the fraternity Conclave to compete against the other eleven provinces (regions) in the world for the ultimate grand titles.
