Claflin's Upward Bound Program is one of the oldest in the state of South Carolina. Currently, it enrolls 150 students representing 8 high schools from Orangeburg and Calhoun counties.

Upward Bound Program to Host Mister and Miss Pageant

Claflin University will host the Mister and Miss Upward Bound Pageant on Thursday, July 5, 2007, at 7 pm in Tullis Arena of the Jonas T. Kennedy Health and Physical Education Center. Admission to the event is $3.

 

The contestants will offer a wide array of talent as they compete for the titles. Upward Bound students will offer another evening of entertainment during Apollo Night on July 3rd in Tullis Arena. Admission is $3.

Currently, 150 students of ages 14 to 18 are enrolled in the Upward Bound program at Claflin. Participants come from eight high schools in Orangeburg and Calhoun counties. The program provides intensive college preparation, academic advisement, social, cultural and educational activities. Upward Bound is a federally funded program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education. There is no cost to the student to participate.
