The United Negro College Fund Awards $20,000 Planning Grant to Enhance Claflin’s Division of Institutional Advancement

Claflin University is a recipient of a $20,000 planning grant from the Institutional Advancement Program of the United Negro College Fund’s (UNCF) Institute for Capacity Building.  The purpose of the institute is to provide HBCUs with the resources to strengthen their development and advancement operations and to increase private giving, particularly from the institution’s board of trustees and alumni.

One of only ten institutions to receive the planning grant, Claflin will use these funds to prepare an implementation grant proposal.  Six implementation grants will be awarded, providing each institution up to $1.5 million over a maximum of five years.  The implementation grants will be utilized to execute a comprehensive fundraising program.

Dr. LeKita V. Scott, director of development/proposal writer, led Claflin's Institutional Advancement team in developing a successful proposal. Dr. Scott said, “This is an outstanding opportunity to engage in the activities necessary for developing an all-inclusive, five-year fundraising plan.”
