Four members of the Gamma Nu Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. (Claflin University) returned big winners from the group's Bi-Annual International Convention held in Minneapolis, Minnesota, July 10-15. Recent Claflin graduate Brandon Mack received the fraternity’s highest academic undergraduate award, the Byron K. Armstrong Academic Achievement Award, named for one of the fraternity’s most revered founders. Mr. Mack will be entering Florida Coastal School of Law in Jacksonville, Florida, in the fall.

Brandon Hicks, a rising senior and the fraternity's Province representative, placed third in the Student of the Year competition with a performance of Smokie Norful’s “I Need You Now.” The prize is $1000.

Accompanied by their chapter advisor, Tedro R. Rouse, four chapter members representing the Southeastern Province (Region), the states of South Carolina and Georgia, placed second by a one question margin in the fraternity’s Kwiz Bowl. The competition, sponsored by Best Buy, rewarded the students and their advisor portable DVD players.
