What to Expect During Freshman Orientation?

Welcome Class of 2011

The transition from high school or from a job to college can be a challenging process.  As a new student, you need all the support that you can get so that this change is as smooth and as easy as possible.  At Claflin University, The Freshman College is the unit responsible for easing your transition.

On Saturday, August 11, 2007, you will begin the most exciting and important part of your college career. During Freshman Orientation, you will be introduced to almost every area of college life.  The Freshman College Staff, University Faculty, Orientation Leaders, Residential Life Staff and Residence Hall Assistants will greet you as you arrive.

We have planned seminars, activities and small group meetings about these and other topics:

Ø      Learn about the academic expectations from Claflin University faculty;

Ø      Meet other entering students in the Class of 2011, and

Ø      Become involved in social events sponsored by your Student Government Association and the University.

These activities will help you to understand your new environment both in Orangeburg, and at Claflin University.  If at any time during the week you have questions, especially about where to go or how get there, ask for clarification or assistance from any of the orientation leaders, faculty or staff.  I look forward to welcoming you, Class of 2011, and getting off to a great start for the school year!
