Claflin University Intercollegiate Athletics program is progressing in their plight of meeting NCAA Initiatives for a model Division II Athletics program as the Intercollegiate Athletics Department has promoted Karen Williams to the position of Assistant Athletics Director / Senior Woman Administrator.

 

Karen joined the Athletics Department approximately two years ago as the Administrative Assistant to the Athletics Director.  She has more than seven years of experience in education. As Assistant, Williams has worked very closely with the Compliance Committee; she has assisted with completion of a number of NCAA and SIAC initiatives; she currently shares the duties of Facility Coordinator of the Jonas T. Kennedy Health and Physical Education Center.

 

Williams’ responsibilities will be oversight of the conduct and well-being of all student-athletes who participate in 11 sponsored sports as it refers to gender equity; advising the Student Athlete Advisory Committee and leadership of the Champs/Life Skills program as students participate in national and region leadership conferences.

 

Mrs. Williams is a native of Paterson, New Jersey and currently resides in the Branchville Community.  She is a 2001 graduate of Claflin University having earned a Bachelor of Art in Sociology.  Williams obtained her Master of Education from Lesley University in Boston, Massachusetts.  She and her husband Leroy have three children, Yorel, Chaz, and Chekalyn.
