Claflin Men Take First Palace At Paine Meet

On Wednesday, October 3, 2007, Claflin University men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Paine College Cross Country Invitational. In the men's race, Claflin University finished in first place with a score of 58 points.

Top ten individuals for Claflin: Fred Smith, 1st place with a 5k time of 16:35; Pat McRay, 2nd place (17:38); and Nichlolas Ledbetter, 3rd place (18:25). The top three men's team were, 1. Claflin University 58, 2. Fort Valley State 69. 3, Paine College 77.

The Claflin University women finished in 5th place with 128 points. The top three teams in the women's race were 1. Albany State 15, 2. Paine College 65, 3. Fort Valley State 75 points.

Top runner for the Claflin women was Lakeya Sanders 10th place finish.

In dual meet action Claflin's men defeated Fort Valley State: 23-33. Fort Valley State women defeated Claflin 20-39.

The next meet for the Panthers will be October 11, at the Erskine College Invitational.
