Claflin University Cross Country Teams Compete at Erskine College

Claflin University men’s and women’s cross country teams traveled to Erskine College on October 11, 2007 to compete in the Erskine College Invitational. Senior Fred Smith continued his outstanding season by placing 2^nd for the 8k(4.8 miles) race. His time of 27:36 was right behind winner Jayce Watson of Wingate University (26:16). Also placing for Claflin : 14^th- Patrick McRay (29:01), 43^rd- Nick Ledbetter (31:59), 84th-Weslee Marsh (38:33), and Lawrence Inman (38:38) at 85^th. The Claflin men finished in 8^th place (210) points.

On the women’s side, Wingate won the team title with 66 points. The 5k(3.1miles) race won by Irene Jeptoto of Winston-Salem State University. Finishers for Claflin women: 52^nd- Lakeya Sanders (24:59), 91^st Felicia Walters (31:33), 96^th Cicely Jenkins (34;24), and 97^th Jayshaun Bailey (34:42).

The next meet will be October 20, 2007 at USC-Beaufort Invitational.
