Claflin University Senior Shawntae McCray looked confident and reassured as she exited the Graduate and Professional Schools Visitation Day held on campus last week.

She was pleased to see a representative from the University of Georgia, the graduate school she has already applied to. McCray was able to get the additional information she needed.

“This was a very good event,” said McCray, who is pursuing a degree in biomedical research. “I got more information I needed to put in my information packet.”

Hundreds of students from Claflin and surrounding areas took advantage of Claflin University’s Graduate and Professional Schools Visitation Day held on campus last week. The event was coordinated by the Division of Student Development and Services Office of Career Development. With more than 40 schools represented from across the country, students had a unique opportunity to learn about post graduate opportunities and graduate admission tests like the GRE and the GMAT.

Schools attending included The Ohio State University, the University of South Carolina, the Medical University of South Carolina, The University of Florida and Claflin University’s Biotechnology and MBA programs. Students asked college representatives questions ranging from programs offered and their prerequisites to entry tests they would have to take and the schools’ reputations.

“I’m very pleased with the turnout,” said Howard Jackson, Coordinator of Special Programs in the Office of Career Development. “Students are being exposed to a lot of information here.”

Claflin University offers three graduate programs: Master of Business Administration, Master of Science in Biotechnology and Master of Educational Studies with an emphasis in Teacher Leadership. Post graduation, Claflin students have gone on to succeed in Claflin’s graduate programs as well as graduate programs at institutions nationwide.
