Lady Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University Gives Pantherettes First Loss of the Season

The Lady Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith ended the Claflin University Pantherettes (3-1) winning streak at 3 games by the final score of 59-40.

Turnovers, cold shooting, and lack of efficiency at the free-throw line, as well as being out rebounded 49- 23 led to Claflin losing their first game of the season.

The Pantherettes experienced a cold shooting first half, and the second half they were no warmer. Down by 9 points at the break Claflin would see their deficit increase to 21 points 52-31, at the 7 minute mark in the game. The Lady Golden Bulls would cruise the rest of the way for a 58-40 victory.

The first half was a defensive battle as both teams found it difficult to sustain any offense. With the Lady Golden Bears holding on to a 4 point lead 24-20. The Pantherettes would score only 3 more points for the remainder of the half, going into intermission down by 9 points 32-23. Claflin ended the half shooting 26% while JCS shot 48%. Janai Jackson scored 9 points for JCS as Latoya Savage had 7 for CU.

The Lady Golden Bulls were led by Janai Jackson with 15 points. While Ashley Young-Jones and Shontanette Shaw added 10 points each.

Latoya Savage led the Pantherettes with 11 points. Ashley Sorrell-Gibson contributed 8 points.

The Panther and Pantherettes will host Kentucky State in the Jonas T. Kennedy Center on December 8, 2007, at 5:30 pm.
