Panthers Win Physical Game Against Lemoyne-Owen This is the first meeting between the Magicians of Lemoyne-Owen College and the Panthers of Claflin University. Both teams will compete next season as members of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC). The Panthers took control of the closely contested game early in the second half enjoying their largest margin 13 points on a 3 point field goal by Phillip Brown 40-27 with 16:45 to go. The lead ballooned to 15 points 46-31 at 13:05, when the Magicians made an 8-1 run to cut their deficit to 8 points 47-39, with 9:20 left. The Magicians made their final run inside 1 minute cutting the Panther lead to 7 points 60-53. Jerome Starr made 2-2 from the line and Jamaal Newman made 2-2 to ice the game for the Panthers, by the score 64-55. The very physical first half was played on even terms with neither team seemingly able to take control. With both teams playing in-your-face defense, produced many first half, Claflin committed 9 and LOC 12. The half ended with the Panthers leading the Magicians 31-27. The Magicians were led in scoring by Rasul Bulu with a game high 20 points. Mennci Mickens and Greg Hill had 10 points each. Phillip Brown was the high scorer for the Panthers with 12 points.
