Lady Panthers Defeat Lady Tigers 64-60

 

 

Tuskegee, AL- The Lady Panthers (7-3) and the Lady Golden Tigers (2-4) of Tuskegee University met for the first time in recent history, in the James Center on the campus of Tuskegee University. This was the third game in four days for the Lady Panthers on this eight day road trip.

 

The first half saw the Lady Panthers lead by as many as 11 points 22-11 with 6:34 remaining. The Lady Tigers went on a 13-4 run to end the half, trailing the Lady Panthers by two points 26-24. Latoya Savage kept the Lady Tigers at bay with 9 first half points. Brittani Martin scored 8 points going 3-4 from behind the arc. Crystal Benton led the Lady Tigers with 9 first half points.

 

The Lady Panthers came out of the break going on a 14-4 run to push their lead to 14 points, with 15:03 left. The Lady Panthers seemed to have control of the game, maintaining a double-digit lead. The Lady Tigers had one last run in them as the Lady Panther would be only 7 points 57-50 at the 2:53 mark. With the Lady Panthers leading 59-52, the Lady Tigers made a free-throw to cut the lead to 6 points 59-53, with 1:12 left to play. The Lady Tigers cut the lead to 3 points on a three point play by Amina Wofford, to make the score 57-60. Ashley Sorrell Gibson made two free-throws with :12 left to play to put the game way for CU. A three pointer by Aisha Johnson at the buzzer, was too little too late, as the Lady Panthers went on to win by the score of 64-60.

 

Britanni Martin and jayshaun Bailey shared the scoring honors for the Lady Panthers with 19 points. Ashley Sorrell-Gibson added 10 to the Lady Panther cause.

 

The Lady Tigers were led by Aisha Johnson with 13 points. Crystal Benton contributed 12 points for the Tigers.

 

The Panthers and Lady Panthers will be in action Thursday in the Jonas T. Kennedy Center, when Albany State University comes to town, for a 5:30 start.
